Course Length: Total class and range time will be up to 4 hours. Please call (423) 956-1230 after 5 PM to reserve your space in class. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED due to limited class size. Maximum class size is four students per instructor.

Course Goals: To provide beginning shooters with an introduction to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to own and use a specific pistol model safely.

Student Text: The Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook.
Course Lessons: Topics and approximate times:
  1. Introduction to Pistol Safety, Parts, and Operation (up to one hour)
  2. Introduction to Ammunition and the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting (up to one hour )
  3. Introduction to Pistol shooting from the Bench Rest position (up to one hour)
  4. Introduction to pistol cleaning, storage, and additional training opportunities (up to one hour)
What to Bring:

A safe attitude; Your Pistol, if you have one, either revolver or semi-auto pistol; eye and ear protection if you have them, ammunition, at least fifty rounds per person. Bring your dinner and drinks as there are no near by restaurants.

What I will Provide:

A 22 caliber revolver and 22 caliber semi-automatic pistol and ammunition ( it is better to learn on your own pistol if you already have one. We will help you choose a pistol if you do not have one); eye and ear protection; targets; sand bags; cleaning kit; NRA Handbook; Writing materials; various learning and training aids; multiple handouts; dummy ammunition (snap-caps); Enthusiasm; a safe learning environment. A certificate of Completion, “NRA First Steps Pistol”.
