Course Length: Fourteen Hrs total, taught in two sessions.

Course Goals: To teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a rifle safely.

Course Lessons: Topics and approximate times:
  1. Rifle Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling (Two Hours)
  2. Ammunition Knowledge and the Fundamentals of Rifle Shooting (Two Hours)
  3. Firing the First Shots (Two Hours)
  4. Standing Rifle Shooting Position (Two Hours)
  5. Prone and Kneeling Rifle Shooting Positions (Two Hours)
  6. Sitting Rifle Shooting Position and Review of Positions (Two Hours)
  7. Rifle Sports and Activities (Two Hours)

What to bring: A safe attitude; Your rifle, bolt action .22 cal preferred; eye and ear protection if you have them; ammunition, approximately one hundred rounds per person.  
What I will provide: A 22 caliber bolt action target rifle, sling, carpet, spotting scope and ammunition (there is an ammunition/rifle fee of $10.00 if you use my gun and ammo -- it is better to learn on your own rifle if you already have one. we will help you choose a rifle if you do not have one); eye and ear protection; sand bags; cleaning kit; NRA Handbook; Writing materials; various learning and training aids; multiple handouts; dummy ammunition (snap-caps); Enthusiasm; a safe learning environment, NRA Completion Certificate, "NRA Basic Rifle".
