Course cost: $85.00 each for basic course, including use of my .22 cal firearms and ammo.
Course Length: Total class and range time will be up to 10 hours

Course Goals: To teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self, family and to provide information on the law-abiding citizen's right to self-defense

Course Lessons: Topics and approximate times:

  1. Introduction to Defensive Shooting (One hour)
  2. Basic Defensive Handgun Skills (Three hours)
  3. Firearms and the Law: Possession, Ownership, and the Use of Deadly Force (One hour)
  4. Strategies for Home Safety and Responding to a Violent Confrontation (One hour)
  5. Selecting A Handgun for Self-Defense (One half hour)
  6. Sport Shooting Activities and Training Activities (One half hour)
  7. Course Review and Examination (One hour)

The NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection in the Home Handbook

Pre- requisites:
  1. Pre-course Questionnaire
  2. Completed and Certified NRA Basic Pistol Course or equivalent, or
  3. Pre-course Assessment (must pass with grade 80% or higher).
  4. Be able to demonstrate loading and unloading a pistol and revolver

What to bring:

A safe attitude; Your Pistol, either revolver or semi-auto pistol; eye and ear protection, ammunition, approximately two hundred rounds per person. Two magazines for your self-loading (semi-auto) pistol or speed loaders for your revolver. Snap caps for your pistol. Lunch/snacks and drinks.

What I will provide:

Included in the course tuition at no additional cost ($85.00) is the NRA Handbook; writing materials; various learning and training aids; multiple handouts; enthusiasm; a safe learning environment. NRA “Personal Protection in the Home” certificate. My guns and ammo.
